This week was pretty boring actually. Well, not boring for me but nothing really changed so I don't really have a whole lot to tell you! I'm still loving the Chinese and...

WAIT! I FORGOT TO TELL YOU ABOUT CHRISTMAS!

Ok, so last Thursday the 25th, (it was a long time ago, that's why I forgot) our zone threw Christmas! We made a Christmas tree out of all the cardboard boxes that we get and some left over paper towel rolls! Our whole zone did a Secret Santa with each other that night and one of our Elders, Elder Council got a full Santa suit so that morning we went caroling to breakfast! Hahaha it was fantastic! When you're stuck in here for eternity you find ways to keep yourself entertained! It was great! I have some pictures that I can send.

Anyway, the Chinese is great and I'm really starting to get teaching down pretty well, I can actually joke around with one of our investigators when I mess up now! And let me tell you, there are way too many easy ways to mess up in Chinese! One little tone change can make my sentence of God gave Joseph Smith the priesthood to God gave Joseph Smith reproductive organs! Hahahah whoops! Yes, I did that on accident... But I did get the whole first vision memorized! That is exciting!

I'm happy and the work is going well! Everyday my testimony just grows more and more! Sorry this week's letter is kind of short, I have plenty of time I just don't have a lot to say! We got new teachers again! We keep losing our favorite ones, but we just barely got a new teacher that is so awesome! He's the one that I could tell jokes to and stuff! Hahaha

Well, I know this church is true, I know that families are forever. The power that that one sentence can have is incredible.  That is one of the strongest truths that we have on this Earth. I love you all and I'll keep writing even if we don't have much going on!

Love you all!

Hey Everyone!

My 3rd week was great! The language is still going well and I'm still enjoying my time here, but it is going by really really quickly!  This week was a little tender because we lost like 21 of the elders from our zone and I'm going to miss them so much. But that's okay, most of them I'll see in about 6 weeks anyway because we all have a celebration for 60 years of the church in Taiwan the week after we get there so all the missionaries will be there! Also we lost our favorite teacher this week to UVU so that was kind of rugged! Bye bye Sister Ochoa.

Things have kind of settled down and I'm pretty used to the way everything works here.  This week we did get a new solo missionary companion. His name is Elder Willes, he's from Bountiful.  I'm not sure why but his district is just him and another sister missionary so we have to take him with us most of the time but then during class he leaves.  It's really weird but oh well, we love having him with us so we just consider him part of our district most of the time.

The Chinese is going so well for me! I love learning it so much.  I almost have the first vision memorized now and I love it! The teachers and the spirit are incredible here! I'm glad to hear that you all are doing well too! I can't believe it's already time for school to start! I wish Mom and Devin the best of luck!

I don't really know what else to write about actually, this week has kind of just blurred together.  Our district is just like family and I love all of them! Okie dokie! Funny little joke time.  In Chinese, hymn book is pronounced almost exactly like "sugar buns"! So we love going room to room asking if the other districts have sugar buns! Hahaha

Love you all! If there's anything you wanna hear about let me know!

Hey Family! And others!

Week two is done and I can honestly say time is flying! The MTC is very similar to prison and I'm excited to leave, but I'm enjoying it a lot! I'm making the best of it!  This week was fantastic! The Mandarin is coming easily and quickly and I can actually give lessons well now, which is a major relief!  I'm so thankful for my teachers, we finally got two!  Feng Laoshi (used to be our investigator) is now on his 4th day of teaching so it's been an adventure but hes doing really well!  Sister Ochoa is our other teacher.  She is incredible! Sadly this is her last week though so that's a bummer.  (Yes her father did talk in General Conference.)  Both of them are helping us learn so well and I am so thankful that they can bring the spirit in to class as well as they can because I know that's the only way I'm learning as much and as well as I am!  This church is true everyone.  I realized how true that statement was when I started crying while I shared my testimony IN CHINESE to our investigator.  He's not even a real investigator and I still feel the spirit stronger than ever.

I am happy here and I have never been much healthier (besides the food)!  I've been running 2-5 miles everyday and been playing volleyball with our zone.  I'm still having lots of fun and keeping my patience and positive attitude.  I guess that's not too hard when our zone does things like reenact The Battle for Helm's deep with all of our cardboard boxes, belts, bed sheets and paper towel rolls! Hahaha (Yes, we got it on video... To go along with their former Star Wars night and our soon to be Batman night!)  I know for sure that heavenly father picked this zone and district for me!  Elder Nelson, my companion is from Salt Lake, he went to Highland.  Elder Cline went to Wood's Cross, he also is from Salt Lake.  Elder Kaufusi is the third from Salt Lake and went to East High. Elder Alexander is from Hawaii and went to Kahuku.  Sister Richards is from Provo and went to Timpview.  And finally Sister Bernhardt is from Logan.  I found out this week that she knew all the Kingstons, did dance with them and went to High School with Nikki! So that's where they're all from.

Last night I got called down to the front desk and found out we're getting another companion in about an hour now.  For some reason, they brought in ONE Elder and ONE Sister this week.  That's all.  So they can have class together but they can't go everywhere without other companions.  It's going to be weird to figure out so I'll have to let you know more about it next week.

Yes, Colton left for his mission yesterday.  But we did take a picture together on Sunday! He has it on his camera so you'll have to get it from him.  Elder Kimmel and I are getting all the Orem kids together on Sunday to take a picture together before he leaves on Tuesday!

I'm glad to hear you are all doing so well! Devin, I'm sorry about the spider, that never happened to me! Sucker!! I hope some day soon you'll feel the comfort and the love in that room that I was able to feel.  Adam, best of luck moving out.  You're gonna need it.

Dad, I don't know if you remember, but during my priesthood ordination, you blessed me that I would have lots of opportunities to use the priesthood.  Well, yesterday while I was doing role play with Sister Bernhardt (Peng Jiemei)  she asked me if I would give her a blessing of comfort.  So last night after asking our branch president, I had the opportunity to give her my first blessing.  It was an incredible experience.  I've never felt the type of revelation through me that I did.  I don't even remember a lot of what I said because I wasn't thinking at all by myself.  I was so happy that I was worthy and ready to give it to her.  Thank you so much for your lessons and your example.

THANK YOU for the packages! They are so useful and I love having them! Nothing has ever melted or gone bad so feel free to send anything! I would love some top ramen, and some pop corn.  But really any treat in the world is fantastic to have when we get back at night or when the breakfast line is to long so we just bail on it! Hahaha  I have been sharing with others too and they all say thank you!  I would also love some more pictures, if I could get a timeline like from baby pictures to now that would be great to show my district and zone.  The one I got already is fantastic to show investigators so thank you so much!  If you wanna send me my pair of jeans and nike shoes that would be great too! My clothes are way too baggy! Hahaha You know me! I'll try to write down things I think of during the week but I can't think of anything else right now!

Well, I would like to close this email with my testimony, but these computers don't really do tones well so I'll just have to send it without them...  Wo zhidao shen shi women de Tianfu.  Wo zhidao women shi Ta de haizi.  Wo zhidao Ta ai Women.  Wo zhidao Yesu Jidu shi Shen de erzi.  Wo zhidao women xuyao zhege fuyin haiyou women xuyao shuzui.  Wo zhidao Yuese Simi fanyi Mo'ermenjing. I know my grammar is probably wrong but oh well!

Love you all! Wo ai nimen!

Love Elder Brian Holderness! (Hong Zhanglao)

Alright, the run down of my past week.  The first day was a little crazy just trying to figure everything out! I got my room and took the orientation and then I was the first of our district to arrive so I was just in the classroom by myself and my teacher was trying to talk to me in Mandarin but my two years in High School did absolutely nothing for me so I just sat there awkwardly trying to understand her.  My companion's name is Elder Nelson.  We are roommates with the zone leaders though and they are awesome.  Since day one, they've taught us how to do the MTC right.  The first night was a lot of fun at the residency because our zone is a party.  Everyone just leaves their doors open and come and go anywhere they want, telling stories and playing games.  But none of us are disobedient either so it's been the best zone for me ever.  That night was pretty rough as I felt the homesickness kind of started to kick in but I actually slept pretty well.

The second day was a lot of work.  Brice Olsen was our teacher for the short hours that we actually had one.  (We've been through three teachers already and yet, we don't have two like we're supposed to have and the rest of the districts have.)  I was already sick of cafeteria food. The Chinese wasn't coming too well and we got assigned our first lesson for the next day.  That night was pretty hard too.  (The first few nights were pretty hard but I've never had a problem during the day.  Friday and Saturday we kind of got in the swing of things even though we still didn't have all the teacher things figured out. (We still haven't.)  Sunday was actually way busy so I got a migraine that night.  Monday and Tuesday went really quickly so that was awesome.  We're in the normal schedule now and I'm starting to just love it here actually. (Or as much as you can love the MTC.)  Tuesday night we had Elder Anderson give us a devotional and we ended up sitting in the third row.  His grandson is our zone leader/roommate so he came even though it was his birthday.  I loved the talk and it was something I really needed to hear.

Thank you for the updates of the outside world! It's nice to hear about what's happening out there cause in here we don't get out much! Hahaha!

Our district (District H) is incredible. We are already like all best friends and do almost everything together.  We have Elder Kaufusi, Elder Driggs, Elder Alexander, Elder Cline, Elder Nelson, Sister Richards and Sister Bernhardt.  I love all of them and am so thankful for Heavenly Father blessing me with them.  Our zone is about the same too.  Everyone is so friendly and crazy but also obedient and teaching.  We have so much fun every night.  My Mandarin is coming along pretty well actually and I am loving learning it so much! Even though our first few lessons were kind of rough our last one was really good!
